We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a company located downtown Montréal with easy access to public transportation, for a Collections Specialist to start immediately.
Reporting to the Collections Supervisor, the Collections Specialist is responsible for the timely collection of outstanding receivables, reducing bad debt, and maintaining positive client relationships. This role is a key part of the accounting team and supports the effective management of accounts receivable processes.
The Collections Specialist takes a proactive approach to managing overdue accounts, communicates confidently with clients to negotiate payment arrangements, resolve disputes, and secure timely payments, and works closely with internal teams such as sales and customer service to address issues impacting collections.
In addition, the role involves maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in the accounting system, including client information and payment status, and preparing reports that provide insight into the company’s financial performance. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while delivering strong customer service.

Responsabilités
Main Responsibilities
The Collections Specialist is responsible for the following:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounts receivable records, ensuring data integrity and completeness.
Manage the collection of past-due accounts by applying appropriate follow-up strategies to recover outstanding balances.
Proactively reach out to clients by phone and email to secure timely payment of outstanding invoices.
Work closely with the Accounting Assistant and Accounting Administrator to support invoicing activities and ensure accurate billing.
Identify and escalate complex or unresolved collection issues to the Director of Accounting and the Sales Team, as required.
Ensure that all updates to client and account information entered in the PE system are correctly reflected in the accounting system.
Prepare, update, and maintain accounts receivable and collections reports with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and respond to client questions regarding invoices and payments.
Accurately enter and update customer account information within the accounting system.
Act as a point of contact between clients, accounting, and internal departments to facilitate communication and resolve issues efficiently.
Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management to support departmental goals and overall team success.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education and Knowledge

High school diploma or equivalent from a recognized Canadian institution.
College diploma (DEC) in accounting or equivalent professional experience is considered a strong asset.
Accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CMA) or active enrollment toward a designation is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English; bilingualism is a significant asset.

Experience, Skills, and Competencies

One (1) to two (2) years of relevant experience in a similar role, with a solid understanding of accounts receivable and collections processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), with demonstrated ability to use these tools for reporting, analysis, and communication.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Customer‑service‑oriented mindset, with the ability to professionally resolve issues and address client concerns.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment to meet shared objectives.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, adapt to shifting priorities, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience with accounting software, including NetSuite, is required.
Communicate with English-speaking clients, partners & employees ocated outside Quebec on a regular] basis
