Your role

If you are interested in joining a small, vibrant team focused on language learning, you may help create official-language learning material using CBC / Radio-Canada content. You will develop teaching material to help users acquire ESL proficiency and progress through the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

This position reports to the Educational Technology Specialist and is a 12-month contract based in Montreal with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft ESL learning activities at multiple levels for use in the application.
  • Revise, give feedback and collaborate with other team members on a variety of technical written tasks.
  • Build users' learning journey from scratch, identifying common themes, selecting relevant vocabulary and grammar points, and presenting information in an approachable way.
  • Review audio / video content and categorize it based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).
  • Identify appropriate clips to create ESL learning exercises for a range of levels.
  • Take part in discussions and observations about the user experience of learners at different stages of project development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in linguistics, English as a Second Language teaching (ESL), education, or related training.
  • Knowledge of and experience in assessing students’ second-language learning requirements.
  • Experience in technical writing, editing, or translation for e-learning platforms.
  • Native-level English skills and strong French-language skills, spoken and written.
  • Understanding of language proficiency levels (Canadian Language Benchmarks, Common European Framework of Reference).
  • Familiarity with popular language learning apps (Mauril is an asset).
  • Familiarity with AI for content creation (an asset).
