Description du poste

WB Games Montreal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), seeks a Senior Technical Designer (Mission).

Votre nouvelle mission

In this role, you will serve as a bridge between Design and Programming, ensuring the feasibility, implementation, and technical quality of gameplay content. Depending on the project and production stage, certain responsibilities may evolve or be reassigned to another production team.

Responsabilités du poste

  • Create technical setups and prototypes to validate gameplay feasibility, scope, and quality.
  • Implement, support, and optimize design revisions throughout development.
  • Support the scripted implementation of gameplay content in collaboration with the Level Design team.
  • Configure and support custom events and unique gameplay moments.
  • Ensure the integration of gameplay systems (AI/encounters, interactions, progression, camera, cinematics) within gameplay content and validate their behavior in scripted content scenarios.
  • Identify dependencies across teams, systems, assets, and resources required for delivery; communicate risks and align requirements early in the process.
  • Adjust the level of polish and completion based on the production phase and expected quality targets (iteration, review, playtest).
  • Leverage QA and playtest feedback; contribute to debugging and performance optimization of content delivered for reviews and playtests (Blueprints, budgets, streaming).
  • Use and evolve engine tools, existing in-editor tools (Level Design building blocks, debugging/cheat tools, submission validation tools), and proprietary WB tools; contribute to pipeline improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Level Design, Game Design, and Programming teams; participate in departmental meetings and provide visual scripting mentorship when required.

Qualifications et expérience

  • 5+ years of experience in a game or level design position with an emphasis on technical aspects.
  • Relevant AAA development experience, ideally on action-adventure, open world, and narrative-driven games.
  • Strong understanding of 3D game engines and visual scripting; experience with Unreal Engine and Blueprints is considered a major asset.
  • Proficiency in prototyping, debugging, iteration, and optimization (Blueprint reviews, profiling, World Partition).
  • Ability to prioritize and calibrate the quality of deliverables based on the production context (proof of concept, internal review, playtest, near-final content).
  • Ability to identify and map dependencies and constraints across disciplines, technical content, assets, and production resources.
  • Familiarity with Behavior Trees, EQS, interaction systems, gameplay cameras, and the integration of cinematics and gameplay; these are considered assets.
  • Experience with Maya is a major asset. The ability to read C++ code and prior programming experience are considered assets but are not required.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
