Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, the Senior Legal Counsel will serve as a strategic partner to the various business units in a complex, dynamic, and highly regulated environment.
The incumbent will actively contribute to the management of commercial and regulatory litigation, regulatory or internal investigations, legal risk management, and support for the company’s commercial and operational activities.
The incumbent will be required to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice tailored to a constantly evolving operational context.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution
- Manage a portfolio of commercial, civil, and regulatory litigation involving the company and its subsidiaries.
- Develop and recommend legal risk management and dispute resolution strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee mandates entrusted to external legal counsel, including budget, timelines, and deliverables.
- Participate in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and dispute settlements.
- Coordinate document preservation, disclosure, and evidence collection processes.
- Advise internal teams on pre‑litigation, litigation, and urgent or sensitive matters, including participation in crisis management cells.
Internal Investigations and Compliance
- Lead or support internal and regulatory investigations, liaise with authorities, and contribute to the evolution of compliance programs and policies.
Commercial Support and Operations
- Review, draft, and negotiate various commercial and operational agreements, and monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business.
- Provide strategic legal advice to internal clients regarding the company’s commercial and operational activities.
- Identify legal risks and recommend pragmatic, business-oriented solutions.
Qualifications
- Active Member of the Barreau du Québec.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in commercial litigation, acquired in a law firm and/or in-house environment.
- Experience in a highly regulated environment; experience in the aviation industry is considered a strong asset.
- Proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary files.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, legal risk management, and business judgment skills, with a pragmatic and business-oriented approach.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment, with autonomy and rigor.
- Excellent command of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and demonstrated ease with collaborative digital tools and AI (e.g., Copilot).
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
- Oral and written fluency in French and English *.
*A good knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec. The incumbent will be required to communicate and collaborate frequently in English, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and internationally.
