The multi-Oscar-winning creative Film & Episodic studio, at Framestore has worked with some of the greatest storytellers in film today. About the role

The Visual Development Artist helps to reduce the number of iterations in more expensive departments in the Film division by producing effective images or sequences that will help to answer creative questions on asset designs and builds (characters, props, vehicles, environments, fx) or help to define shot moods. The rendering should be generated from the available elements for that shot/asset (renders, models, etc...) when possible, in the aim of accelerating the incorporation of the creative notes into the actual asset/shot builds.

What you’ll do:

  • Working closely with the HOD, supervisors and clients to provide efficient and photorealistic imagery while building assets and scenes, using both 2D and 3D packages and helping to answer creative and technical questions during asset/shot/sequence development
  • Helping supervisors sell their vision for an asset/shot/sequence to clients by coming up with original designs, ideas and good visual references
  • Keen to help others, either for technical or artistic questions
  • Working on tight deadlines with frequent outputs when necessary
  • Working to get approvals on looks quickly to give time for the downstream departments to achieve these looks through proper builds
  • Working closely with other departments and HODs to make sure they can incorporate in the full builds everything they can from the visual development process

Exigences

  • Extensive visual background, highest creative traits
  • Production experience in Blender, Houdini, and Nuke. Note that Blender is the team's primary tool.
  • 6+ years of experience in a Film and/or Game production pipeline
  • Ability to translate supervisors and client needs/briefs into visuals in an efficient manner
  • Great attention to detail and a proactive approach to identify and resolve visual issues in order to maintain quality and logic within the outputs
  • On the lookout for new tools/addons/software/techniques to improve the team's efficiency
  • Strong demonstrable experience in frame/shot composition/mood/realism
  • Good working knowledge of cinematography in a virtual environment
  • Ability to take direction and feedback from a supervisor
  • Able to create organised scenes/scripts/2D documents for easy handovers

Qualifications

  • Generalist skills in modeling/texturing/lighting/compositing
  • Good understanding of geometry nodes(Blender) is a plus
  • Interest for the simulation/FX (a plus)
  • Good understanding of practical and digital cameras
  • At ease with creating various kinds of work: environments, creatures, weapons, fx, architecture…
  • Good knowledge of secondary 3D software and real-time render engine (Octane and Unreal) is a plus
