Department Overview

The Information Unit gathers, analyzes, and manages all entitlement and corporate action related information of eligible securities at CDS and reports pertinent data to CDS participants/subscribers for financial evaluation and appropriate action. This hybrid role (2–3 days/week in the office) is based in Montreal, QC.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyze information pertaining to entitlement distributions and mandatory corporate action events and report it externally to CDS participants/subscribers and internally to support departments.
  • Interact with issuers, legal counsel, transfer agents, and DTCC to validate information and clarify legal/tax implications.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and distribution processing of entitlement and corporate action events through various systems and websites.
  • Summarize and prepare depository bulletins for dissemination to CDS subscribers within established service-level standards.
  • Research and respond to related queries or requests promptly and courteously, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Resolve or appropriately escalate problems and discrepancies within established timelines; document occurrences and exceptions clearly.
  • Review procedures, guidelines, and internal controls; recommend changes to enhance operational excellence, risk mitigation, and customer consideration.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to maintain unit effectiveness.

Must Have Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Commerce, Business Administration, or Economics.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in the financial/securities industry, specifically in entitlement and corporate action operations.
  • Thorough understanding of security entitlement/corporate action procedures and depository operations, including securities issuance, cancellation, and DTC interface.
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills for complex entitlement payments and corporate actions.
  • Excellent organizational skills to plan and prioritize tasks, meeting strict deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and flexible to situational changes affecting the work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to write clearly and interact effectively with external agencies.
  • Capacity to identify potential risks and present recommendations for mitigation.
  • Tactful and diplomatic in completing work activities with urgency and sensitivity to user concerns.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel and other PC software (Word, PowerPoint, Google G Suite).
  • Ability to resolve or escalate issues that could negatively impact operations or the company’s reputation.
  • Display team spirit, honesty, and respect in the workplace.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced, varied environment.
