Overview

Techo-Bloc is seeking an Automation & Controls Specialist for our R&D team. This role is based in Saint-Hubert with occasional travel to other sites in the U.S. and Canada. You will program, configure, and integrate new automation systems, troubleshoot and maintain automation equipment, and perform optimisations and preventative maintenance to maximize peak efficiency. The position offers competitive compensation and requires availability to support factory operations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot existing automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Robots, Variable Frequency Drives, Fieldbus Networks & Industrial Communication Networks.
  • Program, configure and integrate new automation systems such as VFDs, Fieldbus Devices & Communication Networks.
  • Perform electrical diagnostics and partner with the maintenance team to identify, diagnose, and resolve machine issues effectively.
  • Identify potential safety risks and implement measures to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Analyze industrial safety systems and perform programming and configuration as needed.
  • Maintain electrical drawings and other automation-related documentation.
  • Provide training to the production team on automation equipment operations and methods.
  • Coordinate with production, maintenance, IT, and other departments on automation-related initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for larger automation projects to ensure timely and effective implementation.

Qualifications

  • Electrodynamic and / or Instrumentation Technical Degree.
  • Advanced electrical, controls and automation skills; 10+ years of experience in Industrial Automation / Controls.
  • Hands-on PLC and HMI programming and configuration experience (Siemens S7 / TIA; other PLCs / HMIs a plus).
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and industrial field buses (Profibus, Profinet, ASi, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans and maintain drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Basic networking skills (Ethernet, routers, switches).
  • Experience with industrial Safety Systems (ASi Safe, Profisafe) and industrial robots (ABB, Yaskawa).
  • Robot programming experience (ABB Rapid, Motoman Inform) is a plus.
  • Strong PC skills and ability to configure and troubleshoot PC applications, networking, and hardware.
  • English and French communication skills are essential (English required for USA customers).
