Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
NBCUniversal is looking for a seasoned Technical Art Director with experience in AAA open-world games to help shape the visual direction of an ambitious new entertainment project.
- Define and implement technical art pipelines for world-building, procedural generation, and asset optimization using Unreal Engine 5 and Houdini.
- Develop and optimize real-time rendering workflows, including shaders, materials, lighting, and VFX, ensuring both visual quality and performance efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Art Director, Engineering, and Design teams to ensure a seamless integration of artistic vision and technical execution.
- Establish best practices for asset optimization, streaming, LODs, and memory management to maintain a high level of performance across platforms.
- Lead the creation of procedural tools to assist artists in generating large-scale environments efficiently.
- Evaluate and integrate advanced tools and automation techniques to enhance content creation and iteration speed.
- Guide and mentor the technical art team, fostering collaboration with engineers and artists to develop robust workflows.
- Work with co-development partners, ensuring technical standards are met and assets integrate seamlessly.
- 12+ years of experience in the video game industry, with a focus on AAA open-world game development.
- Deep expertise in Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprint scripting, material / shader development, and performance optimization.
- Strong experience with procedural content generation using Houdini.
- Technical proficiency in real-time rendering, asset streaming, and large-scale world-building.
- Proven ability to develop and optimize asset pipelines, including tools for procedural generation, animation, and VFX.
- Experience leading and mentoring technical art teams in a collaborative production environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical constraints and artistic goals.
- Experience with photogrammetry workflows, high-fidelity asset pipelines, and advanced material / shader techniques.
- Expertise in pipeline automation and scripting (Python, C++, or similar) to improve content workflows.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience working in cross-disciplinary teams.
- Passion for pushing the boundaries of real-time graphics and large-scale environment creation.
- Hybrid : This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the NBCU Montrealoffice a minimum of three days per week.
