RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Department / Research Program : Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases

We are looking for a research associate (full-time) to work under the supervision of Dr. Dao Nguyen in the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases program at the RI MUHC. The candidate will work on research projects focused on bacteriology, proteomics and antimicrobial drug discovery.

Role

The applicant will work as a research associate in the Nguyen lab, with specific responsibilities commensurate to their level of education level and prior experience. The incumbent will be involved in coordinating projects, maintenance of equipment, designing and executing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, preparing reports and presentations, supporting and supervising other members of the Nguyen lab.

General Duties

  • Develops and established research methodologies and protocols, particularly in microbiology and proteomics,
  • Designs, troubleshoots and performs scientific experiments, Compiles, analyzes and presents data,
  • Assists in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts,
  • Project coordination : communicates with team members and external collaborators, tracks progress, prepares drafts of progress reports, supports project-related tasks such as contracts, documentation,
  • Accomplishes any other related tasks as required by the immediate supervisor.

Education : Doctorate Degree

Field of Study : Microbiologie, chemistry, biochemistry or related

Professional Membership : ☐ Yes ☒ No

Work Experience

  • Previous laboratory experience using methodologies in bacteriology, molecular biology (particularly cloning), biochemistry, mass spectrometry, chemistry Previous experience in molecular biology (e.g. qPCR,
  • Experience with data analysis including statistical methods and scientific communication (including publications and other presentations). Familiarity with bioinformatic tools and coding is an asset,
  • Proficiency in standard communication softwares (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, telecommunications).
  • Required Skills

  • Critical thinking, scientific curiosity, motivation and problem solving abilities,
  • Attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Highly organized with project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects,
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and teamwork skills,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision.

    Additional information

    Status : Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

    Pay Scale : $55,692.00 - $103,412.40 / per year. Commensurate with education and experience

    Work Shift : Monday to Friday 8 : 30am to 4 : 30pm

    Work Site : GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
