RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Department / Research Program : Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases

We are looking for a research associate (full-time) to work under the supervision of Dr. Dao Nguyen in the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases program at the RI MUHC. The candidate will work on research projects focused on bacteriology, proteomics and antimicrobial drug discovery.

Role

The applicant will work as a research associate in the Nguyen lab, with responsibilities including coordinating projects, maintaining equipment, designing and executing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, preparing reports and presentations, and supporting and supervising other lab members.

General Duties

  • Develops and establishes research methodologies and protocols, particularly in microbiology and proteomics.
  • Designs, troubleshoots and performs scientific experiments, compiles, analyzes and presents data.
  • Assists in preparing presentations and manuscripts.
  • Coordinates projects : communicates with team members and external collaborators, tracks progress, prepares drafts of reports, and supports project-related tasks such as contracts and documentation.
  • Performs any other related tasks as required by the supervisor.

Education / Experience

Education : Doctorate Degree

Field of Study : Microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related

Professional Membership : No

Work Experience

  • Laboratory experience in bacteriology, molecular biology (cloning), biochemistry, mass spectrometry, chemistry. Experience in molecular biology techniques such as qPCR is preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical methods, scientific communication (publications and presentations). Bioinformatics and coding skills are assets.
  • Proficiency in standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, telecommunications).
  • Required Skills

  • Critical thinking, scientific curiosity, motivation, problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly organized with project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimal supervision.

    Status : Temporary, full-time (35 hours / week)

    Pay Scale : $55,692 - $103,412.40 / year, based on experience and education

    Work Shift : Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 am to 4 : 30 pm
