RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
Join a dynamic Finance team supporting a leading-edge clinical research environment. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Supervisor, Finance – Clinical Research Portfolio plays a key role in monitoring and analyzing the financial performance of a diverse portfolio of clinical trials.
In this role, you will contribute directly to strategic decision-making by delivering rigorous financial analysis and ensuring strong financial controls. You will work closely with Clinical Research teams and key stakeholders to support the effective and sustainable management of research activities.

General Duties
• Monitor and analyze the financial performance of the clinical trials portfolio.
• Maintain financial dashboards and performance and risk indicators.
• Review and validate financial reconciliations (budget vs execution vs billing vs cash).
• Identify financial variances, trends, and structural issues.
• Define and apply financial governance standards and escalation thresholds.
• Identify, assess, and escalate financial risks.
• Provide financial analysis and interpretation of study-level and portfolio data.
• Collaborate with operational teams to align financial insights with clinical activities.
• Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and decision support materials.
• Support audits, portfolio reviews, and institutional reporting requirements.
• Supervise the Billing and Financial Control team (4–5 FTE).
• Ensure quality, consistency, and timeliness of outputs.
• Coach and develop team members.

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Accounting, Finance or related field
Work Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of relevant finance experience
Professional Membership: ☒ Yes ☐ No
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
Required Skills
• An advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required.
• An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
• Strong financial analysis skills.
• Knowledge of financial controls and reconciliation processes.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
• Leadership and team supervision skills.
