MAKING AN IMPACT
Under the supervision of the Director, Communications, Quebec and Francophone Canada, your primary responsibility will be the proactive and reactive management of media relations in order to help promote the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and protect its reputation. As part of the communications team, the Senior Specialist, Communications and Public Relations, develops and executes communication and public relations campaigns related to the CCS’s mission, activities, and fundraising initiatives. In this role, you will help strengthen the organization’s visibility, credibility, and reputation with the media, partners, and the general public, while supporting organizational priorities and strategies.

Strategic communications and media relations
- Develop and implement proactive media relations strategies in line with organizational priorities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the media in Quebec and French-speaking Canada.
- Manage journalist requests, coordinate interviews, and prepare spokespeople.
- Write, adapt and revise high-quality content (press releases, key messages, press lines, media kits).
- Oversee media monitoring and produce monthly media coverage reports.
Issues management, reputation management, and spokespeople support
- Support the management of organizational issues and reputation.
- Prepare scenarios, key messages and communication tools for sensitive situations.
- Accompany and train spokespeople (briefings, messages, simulations).
- Participate in coordinating media responses to reputational risks.
Planning and integration of communications
- Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, digital communications, public affairs).
- Develop integrated communication plans to support the mission and fundraising.
- Coordinate relations with external agencies.
- Organize media launches related to mission and fundraising projects.
- Help evaluate the performance of communication initiatives.
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.

Exigences
- University degree in a relevant field (communications or public relations)
- Atleast 3-5 years of experience in Media Relations or similar field is required
- Content writing and production experience is required
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and communication projects
- Experience with Cision software, an asset
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to organize and manage projects
- Ability to work remotely and independently
- Interpersonal and team work skills
- Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; communicate with technical and non-technical users
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment
- Bilingualism (French/English) is highly preferred, with French being required and English being an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations
