Impact
MAKING AN IMPACT
Under the direct supervision of the national translation manager, the translator-reviser translates documents into French and is also called upon to provide revision services for texts written in French, as well as terminology services and linguistic advice.
In addition, this person provides quality assurance for external translations into French (and occasionally into English) such as: key messages, press releases, guides and toolkits for fundraising activities, human resources documents, banners, etc.
Ce que vous ferez
- Translate documents submitted by the various departments of the Canadian Cancer Society, mainly from English to French, or from French to English, as required.
- Use translation support tools, such as a translation memory and artificial intelligence, according to CCS quality standards.
- Revise and edit content translated primarily from English into French (Word and Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations) to ensure the use of plain language, compliance with CCS standards and consistency with existing approved tools.
- Review document proofs in their final format (PDF, banners, mass emails, website, among others).
- Work with authors, internal clients and others requesting services to provide translations that meet their needs and CCS quality standards.
- Maintain links with suppliers of translation-revision products and services according to their fields of expertise.
- Attend team meetings conducted mainly in French.
- Participate in various Communications and Marketing Department projects.
- Contribute to the translation and adaptation of the annual update of the Canadian Cancer Society Writing Manual and in the creation of lexicons on the terminology used by different departments.
- Contribute to the work of team members and collaborate on any related mandate assigned by their immediate supervisor.
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in translation, certificate in revision, or a combination of training and equivalent experience.
- At least three years of experience translating from English into French in a supervised environment, preferably in the health field, and significant experience as a reviser.
- Strong writing skills, critical thinking, broad general knowledge, rigour, and creativity.
- Bilingualism required: Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams).
- Knowledge of traditional computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, language project management tools and neural translation tools.
- Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and apply new knowledge.
- Knowledge of NPOs and the health environment, an asset.
- Strong sense of customer service, excellent communication skills, strong team spirit.
- At least one year of experience in web publishing.
- At least two years of experience reviewing plain language principles.
- Knowledge related to cancer health and terminology, an asset.
- Certificate in web publishing, an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
