Job Description
WB Games Montreal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), seeks an Advanced Level Designer.
Your New Role…
In this role, you will be responsible for creating key levels and/or large sections of the game world, and encounters, or events with NPCs (AI). You will also work closely with the Producers, Craft Directors and Leads to maintain a high-quality product, be a point of contact for all interdepartmental deliverables, and establish production standards in the areas that you own and are responsible for.
You will collaborate regularly with your team's leadership, your colleagues, other artistic and design teams, including technical disciplines related to gameplay. To create the levels and missions from ideation to implementation in the game engine, you will need to team up with the testing services (development and public) to incorporate the necessary feedback to achieve a coherent, enjoyable, and functional gaming experience while meeting the technical constraints. Thanks to your experience, you will help us with our mentoring efforts, workflow improvements and promoting best practices.
Your Role Accountabilities...
- Create and debug content while using the proprietary WB game engine and tools.
- Create and maintain accurate and well-structured documents related to level and mission design.
- Create level layouts using grey block geometry to a polished finish.
- Use Unreal Engine Blueprint visual coding and WB tools to script triggers, combat, stealth gameplay, objectives, and scripted events.
- Be the point of contact and establish an active collaboration with the other disciplines involved (arts, cinematics, VFX, audio, programming, etc.).
- Work closely with your level design team and the interdisciplinary programming, level art, and technical design teams.
- Regularly present your work to leadership and quickly adapt to the feedback provided.
- Give and receive constructive feedback when interacting with other team members, keeping the focus on making the best game experience.
- Develop, enhance, and suggest best-practice pipeline and workflow.
- Coach and advise other members of the team and share your knowledge and research on new development in your field.
- Advise Production and Leadership in the planning of milestones and flag potential challenges.
Qualifications & Experience…
- 8+ years of experience designing games or game levels and having participated in the creation of more than one shipped AAA title.
- Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, including excellent command of written English.
- Positive attitude and a desire to bring innovative ideas to the team.
- Proactive, autonomous, accountable self-starter that welcomes full ownership of their work and responsibilities.
- Collaborative person that values working with others and solving complex problems together.
- Comfortable, flexible, and effective in an often ambiguous, highly iterative, fast-paced deadline-driven environment; you are resilient and have a practical understanding that design specs, priorities and directives often change during development.
- Strong skills in creating and iterating environments and configurations.
- Good understanding of coding (Blueprint, Lua, etc.)
- Solid understanding of functional design and art disciplines and their pipelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, particularly in mentoring the team to ensure that shared vision for the game is understood.
- Good knowledge of 3D Studio Max or Maya, a considerable asset.
- Experience with Unreal 4 / 5 Engine is a strongly desired asset.
