Role : z / OS System Programming Engineer

Location : Fully Remote

Experience Level : 10 to 15 years

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain the z / OS operating environment and related subsystems
• Ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability across z-platform components
• Manage catalog structures and ensure proper configuration and recovery procedures
• Conduct root cause analysis and resolve production issues under pressure
• Perform software installations for z / OS and ISV components
• Develop and execute functional, robustness, and performance tests
• Manage hardware configuration definitions (HCD) and related updates
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX
• Participate in on-call and weekend support rotations
• Stay current with emerging z / OS technologies and contribute to modernization initiatives

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in z / OS systems programming or equivalent roles
• In-depth expertise in z / OS internals and catalog management
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, particularly in high-pressure production environments
• Proficiency in USS / OMVS and z / OS software installation
• Solid understanding of HCD and hardware configuration
• Experience in REXX programming
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
• Availability for on-call and weekend support as required

Preferred / Nice To Have

• Familiarity with modern z / OS technologies such as z / OSMF, REST APIs, Kafka, Ansible, Python
• Experience with Assembler for usermod maintenance and dump analysis
