Job Description

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI‑MUHC) is a world‑renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI‑MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

The IT Analyst reports to the Director of the Digital and Information Technologies Division and supports the alignment of research, clinical, and data management priorities across the institution. Serving as a bridge between researchers, the MUHC data warehouse team, and IT services, the incumbent assesses methodological and technical data needs and translates them into coherent extraction and integration strategies. The incumbent will contribute to the development and maintenance of research data assets, ensuring data quality, privacy, and regulatory compliance. The IT Analyst also promotes the use of data warehouse services and supports capacity building through consultations and training on data access, analysis, and privacy‑preserving methods.

General Duties

  • Conduct methodological assessments of researchers’ data needs, advising on study design, cohort definition, and data extraction logic. Lead structured consultations to translate scientific questions into technically sound and ethically compliant informatics solutions.
  • Promote and support data warehouse services, including data extraction and integration capabilities; design and deliver related training sessions.
  • Analyze and consult on requests related to data access and utilization for research purposes.
  • Collaborate with the MUHC data warehouse team to support data extraction operations, ensuring alignment with complex research methodologies, data governance principles, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the data dictionary and associated tools to facilitate efficient, standardized data extraction and integration.
  • Advance privacy protection initiatives, including anonymization, pseudonymization, and the use of synthetic data.

Education / Experience

Education : Master’s Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related field.
Work Experience : At least three (3) years of full‑time experience in bioinformatics or a similar discipline in a biomedical or clinical research environment, participating in published research projects.

Required Skills

  • Experience working with healthcare data, with a strong understanding of standards and their application in clinical and research contexts.
  • Knowledge of biomedical terminologies and classification systems (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD‑10) as well as experience with research‑oriented data models such as OMOP CDM or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL, including experience optimizing queries for large‑scale data environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical reasoning, scientific communication, and complex problem‑solving across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to influence and collaborate across clinical, technical, and academic communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex environment, deliver results autonomously, and maintain high standards of quality and compliance.

Additional Information

  • Status: Temporary Full‑Time (35 hours work week). Maternity leave replacement.
  • Pay Scale: Commensurate with education & work experience. $55,692.00 – $103,412.40.
  • Work Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie.
  • Note: This is not a hospital position.
