R&D Research Associate
Main Functions
The R&D Associate Scientist will work in a multidisciplinary project team for developing new enzymes and ingredients and will functionally report to the Senior Application Scientist.
- Functions as the main enzyme expert (biochemist) in a multi-disciplinary project team developing new enzymes.
- Develops and validates enzymatic assays for standardizing (existing and newly developed) enzymes.
- Organizes and supervises R&D and application work (baking tests) related to projects for development of new enzymes and ingredients.
- Functionally supervising Research Assistants and R&D Technicians working within the laboratory and involved in assigned R&D projects.
- Maintains the appropriate data and reports on these results.
- Sets R&D long-term priorities in consultation with management, contributes to new product development from concept generation to lab testing and manages selected projects of the R&D (innovation) program.
- Gives technical presentations both internally and externally (customers) and represents Lallemand Bio-Ingredients at scientific conferences and trade shows as appropriate.
- Becomes technical expert in baking science & technology, remains up to date on new technologies and developments, reviews and monitors patent (applications) in the field of baking and baking enzymes and ingredients.
- Contributes to the implementation and application of good laboratory practices in their environment to support the actions of the laboratory or platform manager.
- Identifies and implements all necessary means for laboratory activities (collaboration contracts, subscriptions, industrial partnerships...).
- Contributes to miscellaneous projects as assigned.
Technical skills
Required
- University degree in (bio)chemistry, microbiology, or food science with research background at Master or PhD level.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Scientific reporting and relevant computer skills.
An asset
- Ideally 2-5 years work experience in enzymes.
- Another language (French) would be a plus.
