Deploy is Akur8’s rating engine, the final step in our end-to-end vision, where all steps of pricing – from data analysis to modeling to ratemaking – are streamlined into one modern, powerful, and efficient software.
As a new and evolving product, Deploy presents exciting opportunities and challenges. It serves as a pivotal bridge between the Actuarial and IT functions within insurance, bringing together two disciplines that have traditionally operated separately from each other.
Today, insurance pricing depends on fragmented hand-offs between actuarial and IT teams. Deploy removes these bottlenecks to enable real end-to-end pricing: actuaries can analyze data with transparent ML, simulate scenarios, and move seamlessly pricing strategies into production. Achieving this vision requires a deep understanding of both IT and actuaries' objectives, how they are organized, and the ability to map the complex ecosystem that is behind an insurance product and its pricing.
Role: Product Manager – Montréal
Akur8 is looking for a Product Manager in Montréal who will bring expertise in P&C pricing and rating execution to define, design, and build the rating engine of the future. Streamlining pricing is no easy task — it demands a candidate who thrives on problem-solving, can dive deep into the details, and has an innovative approach to making complex pricing challenges intuitively simple.
More than aligning stakeholders, this role is about product definition, design, and execution — translating deep actuarial and pricing knowledge into a robust solution that delivers value for both technical and business stakeholders.
The position is a cross-functional role, providing a wide range of interactions with various internal teams such as Product Design & Engineering, as well as Sales & Marketing.
Being a Product Manager in our organization requires acquiring knowledge of how the different parts of our platform interact, and then abstracting customer problems in a framework to find clean solutions to complex challenges.
Main responsibilities
- Build deep expertise in actuarial ratemaking and IT deployment challenges (product modeling, policy admin design, approval workflows).
- Ideate and iterate with Designers flows and processes to solve and organize P&C rating challenges (for example: how do you structure an insurance product across multiple states and/or versions? how do you define a system of monitoring and alerting for a sophisticated ML model?)
- Collaborate with Engineers to scope the features for internal development squads.
- Engage with clients and prospects to understand pricing needs to align roadmap and product vision.
Qualifications
For this key role within our Product Management team, we’re keen to speak to applicants that meet the following criteria:
- Experience in the P&C insurance industry, either as a consultant or within an insurance company (essential for this position), with direct exposure to pricing, actuarial teams, or IT (policy admin or pricing systems) - Proven experience with rating engine platforms (e.g., Earnix, Guidewire, Duck Creek) is a strong plus.
- Experience in roles such as a Product Manager, Solution Architect, or Data Scientist within the insurance or SaaS domains.
- A Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
- Excellent quantitative & analytical skills - Familiarity with machine learning techniques is a plus.
- Very strong problem-solving skills with a focus on providing and creating robust solutions.
- Team leadership or management experience.
- Effective communication skills (to exchange with both technical & non-technical stakeholders/clients).
- A collaborative mindset (capability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment).
- Fluent English language skills.
Important: You must possess an employment status that allows you to work in a free and unrestricted manner from our Montreal office.
As a newcomer, you'll be joining a diverse, highly skilled, and motivated team, with a strong Tech DNA, colleagues that are eager to share their knowledge and passion.
