TELUS is actively seeking a dynamic and dedicated leader to join our team as Vice President - Legal Services to lead a high-performing Shared Services legal team within the TELUS Legal & Regulatory Affairs team.

We are looking for a business leader with exceptional leadership and communication skills who can provide objective advice to internal clients including the Company’s Executive Leadership team, while delivering results and nurturing and developing talent across a diverse legal portfolio. This role, which reports to the Chief Legal & Governance Officer, supports a number of enabling functions and Business Units across TELUS, such as Procurement, Employment, Real Estate, Corporate Governance, Ventures & Pensions. Our team of legal professionals are responsible for providing objective risk-based evaluations and insights to support operational efficiency, reliability and achievement of company strategic objectives and social purpose.

As the Vice President Legal Services you will :

  • Lead, coach, develop and inspire a diverse team of legal business professionals
  • Supporting the success of the business as it continues to grow while becoming a trusted advisor to the BU leadership teams
  • Providing thought leadership, strategic consultation and innovative solutions on transactional challenges and opportunities to influence and shape key business decisions
  • Further strengthening relationships with key stakeholders by cultivating a deep understanding of their business objectives and by providing proactive, solution-oriented advice
  • Striving continuously to improve capabilities and outcomes by driving new approaches and process improvements including working with TELUS’ Legal Operations team to optimize the overall legal spend across internal resources and external counsel and the use of legal technologies to drive improved quality and speed of service
  • Mentoring and coaching legal team members to develop the next generation of legal talent and leaders as we continue to grow
  • Drive innovation in the legal support model through automation, process improvement and by adapting the service delivery model to meet business needs and drive operational excellence

Qualifications

You're the missing piece of the puzzle, you are :

  • Known to be an influential communicator who proactively reports key issues, identifies business impacts and makes clear business-relevant recommendations, with the ability to tell the story to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels
  • Recognized as an inspirational and authentic people leader, you lead by example to continuously elevate the culture and engagement across the team
  • Have a legal designation and are respected for your extensive experience across a range of legal portfolios
  • Noted for your ability to connect with, relate to and build trust with a range of executive leaders and stakeholders
  • Known to have strong project management skills, high accountability, willingness to roll up your sleeves, and a track record of successful project execution

Great-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in law. Active member of the Bar in Canada
  • Proven leadership with a minimum 10 years professional experience in leading diverse legal teams
  • Proven experience leading teams with large, complex organizations; global experience an asset
  • Proven experience building relationships with executive management and leadership teams, Board members and other key stakeholders
  • Proficient fluency in French is considered an asset

Salary Range :
