Position Summary

The responsibilities of the research nurse are to work closely with the principal investigator and the study team to collect and document research data. In addition to providing and coordinating care, the research nurse has a central role in assuring participant safety, data collection and follow-ups.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in processes related to assessment and selection of potential candidates.
  • Obtain informed consent of subjects.
  • Educate the subject and caregiver on their responsibilities and compliance with the study.
  • Bio sample collection (blood, saliva, urine);
  • Collect blood, urine and saliva.
  • Assist the neurologist in the collection of CSF.
  • Provide care to the participant after the procedure is completed.
  • Provide all instructions for post-lumbar puncture care.
  • Support the administration of the clinical questionnaire and collect all necessary information and record vitals, height, body weight, anthropometric measurements.
  • Booking appointments for patients and giving all necessary preparatory information.
  • Database organization.
  • Filling and uploading all necessary and relevant study documents and information.
  • LORIS data entry for clinical and screening battery.
  • Conflict correction of information if required.
  • Perform and score basic cognitive tests (MMSE, MoCA, CDR and VCAT);
  • Perform all nurse-related study tasks and procedures and document all data in source template including collection, preparation, and shipment of laboratory samples.
  • Assist the investigator in documenting and reporting the subject’s medical history, concomitant medications, subject’s evolution, and adverse events/reactions.
  • Contact subjects and caregivers by telephone for follow-up/additional information regarding compliance and the study evolution.
  • Order and maintain necessary supplies for study procedures.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Current licensed OIIQ member in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Must be customer-focused and service-oriented, which includes but is not limited to being approachable, responsive, attentive and helpful.
  • Proven discretion in dealing with confidential and/or sensitive information or situations. Assists all clients with a positive attitude, tact and diplomacy while maintaining a professional manner and competence at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain protocols to patients and obtain informed consent.
  • Experience in a clinic environment with proven experience performing triage in a fast-paced clinic setting.
  • Experience in de-escalating high-risk/crisis situations, strongly preferred.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and organize work within area of responsibility.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Must be accurate and possess superior attention to detail with a proven ability to verify work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clinical and administrative information systems (LORIS) is a very strong asset.
  • English, spoken and written. French, spoken and read.

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree - Nursing, 2 Years Related Experience.
