Making an Impact
The Cancer Information team is seeking a French Translator to translate cancer information for the Canadian Cancer Society. The ideal candidate will excel in translation and revision, with a passion for plain language, and possess a strong understanding of localization processes and tools.
Responsibilities
- Translate and revise cancer-related information from English to French.
- Translate and adapt content across formats including digital, print, and video.
- Translate clinical trial records and patient education materials.
- Ensure translations are accurate, clear, relevant, and suitable for francophone audiences in Canada.
- Follow CCS standards, plain language, and health literacy best practices.
- Research terminology to support translation work.
- Proofread content in final formats (PDF, web banners, emails, print, etc.).
- Meet established deadlines for translation projects.
- Collaborate with other translators and teams to ensure consistency and quality.
- Attend project meetings, primarily conducted in English.
- Use tools like Monday.com and XTM to deliver translations on time.
- Contribute to expanding CCS's reach by applying plain-language principles and inclusive language.
- Develop and maintain standards and guidelines for cancer information in French.
- Respond to queries regarding grammar, style, and spelling based on the CCS manual.
- Participate in projects related to terminology and style guidelines.
- Stay updated on medical terminology and inclusive language developments.
- Promote diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE) within the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Translation certificate or degree; or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Fluency in French and English is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of translation experience.
- Experience translating health information and terminology.
- Knowledge of translation processes, terminology, and localization techniques.
- Experience with translation tools like Trados, XTM, Antidote.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and ability to learn new applications.
- OTTIAQ membership is an asset.
- Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable working with translation tools and content management systems.
