Position - Associate Animation Director

You are a talented Associate Animation Director who loves multiplayer, social and competitive games. You are passionate about creating games that connect players in new ways, and that grow and evolve with our communities. You are excited about the challenge of creating a new game IP from the ground up and you enjoy navigating the unknown. At Haven, we're currently working on Fairgame$, a thrilling action heist PvPvE game for the PlayStation 5 and PC. We’re searching for a Senior Level Designer to join our team who loves the kind of game we are making at Haven. As the Associate Animation Director, you will play a key role in supporting and enriching the game’s creative vision by assisting in the definition of gameplay and narrative animation direction. You will work closely with the animation director, world director, audio director, and other creative stakeholders to enhance the player experience and ensure the game’s animation fidelity and quality. You will provide leadership and guidance to the animation team, collaborating with a cross-disciplinary team of designers, programmers, and other professionals to bring the game’s vision to life.

Reporting

The Associate Animation Director will report directly to the Animation Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist in defining a clear vision and guidelines for the animation team and communicate expectations effectively.
• Support the Animation Director in anticipating future project challenges and setting high-level goals for the team.
• Help ensure that quality objectives are met and that the assets produced align with the game's vision.
• Collaborate with the project manager, technical director (TD), and programming team to ensure feasibility and maximize animation quality.
• Work with production and leadership to manage project scope, balancing optimization and visual quality.
• Assist in directing actors during mocap sessions, ensuring the artistic vision is followed and optimizing the animator’s workload.
• Take ownership of specific game features, ensuring they are developed to the highest quality and align with the overall animation direction.
• Oversee and manage relationships with outsourcing partners, ensuring their deliverables meet the project’s standards and timelines.

Skills required

• Experience shipping at least one AAA game from start to finish in a leadership animation role.
• Strong artistic judgment and the ability to provide actionable feedback to animators.
• Demonstrated experience in animation workflows, tools, and pipelines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including providing productive feedback and participating in brainstorming sessions.
• Knowledge of runtime animation systems, concepts, and constraints.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Unreal.
• Knowledge of multiplayer game constraints.
• Previous experience in animation and rigging.
• Experience working on a Game As A Service (GaaS).
