Job Summary

The Manager, Engineering Field Technology, is responsible for various technology initiatives that enhance the safety and efficiency of the railroad. The incumbent oversees research and implementation of new technologies in Engineering, leads Field Technology to ensure proper inspection coverage across the network, and plans strategically to complete projects on time and within budget. Additionally, the role collaborates with Engineering Information Systems to ensure new technologies are integrated into CN’s I&T systems, enabling effective monitoring of each initiative's value and progress.

Main Responsibilities

  • Research and Strategic Development

Research and identify new technologies that add value to the Company

  • Develop strategies to enhance the utilization of existing technologies for maximum benefit
  • Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Supply Management for contracts related to purchasing and leasing advanced products

  • Work with equipment and technology suppliers to track reliability and accuracy for continuous improvement
  • Assist in developing user-friendly reports and accessible information for Engineering
  • Program and Project Management
  • Develop financial estimates, business cases, and monitor project budgets

  • Oversee Autonomous Geometry and Joint Bar Testing, ATIP, and UAV programs within Engineering
  • Plan schedules, track productivity, and support staff development
  • Contribute to joint bar analysis and reporting
  • Provide standards and testing support
  • Industry and Regulatory Engagement
  • Attend railway research committee meetings to align CN with industry developments

  • Communicate with regulatory agencies on new technologies and safety improvements
  • Oversee the implementation of new technologies and projects across CN’s network
  • Assist with improvements to the Track Inspection System (TIS) and site visits
  • Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment, Monday to Friday

  • Experience
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience

  • Experience in technology development and implementation
  • Managing multiple complex projects
  • Establishing best operating practices
  • Experience in Railroad operations, inspection, and maintenance

  • Education / Certification / Designation
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Engineering

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a passport
  • High School Diploma or GED
