Our client is a leading manufacturer of home goods and kitchenware. Their well-known brands are sold in retailers nationwide. With offices in the US, Canada and China they are expecting much growth to the team.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who wants to actively shape products, not simply track them. As Senior Design Engineer, you will be part of the core Engineering team and will lead the technical execution of a wide range of innovative kitchen appliances from early product definition through supplier development, validation, production readiness, and launch.

Vous serez attendu à entrer dans les détails : review CAD, challenge supplier assumptions, identify technical and quality risks, drive design improvements, and make the trade-offs required to deliver better products.

This is not a pass-through project coordination role. We are looking for a senior engineer who can influence the design, raise the technical bar, and take accountability for the product's performance, reliability, manufacturability, user experience, and readiness for launch.

Responsabilités

  • Lead the technical execution of innovative kitchen appliance NPI programs through the stage-gate process, owning engineering deliverables, design decisions, risk closure, and production readiness.
  • Translate product vision, brand intent, consumer needs, and retailer requirements into clear engineering specifications, performance targets, and validation plans that suppliers can execute.
  • Actively review, challenge, and improve supplier designs across CAD, mechanisms, plastics, heaters, motors, PCBAs, controls, user interfaces, assembly methods, and manufacturability.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks early using engineering fundamentals, DFMEA thinking, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, test data, product tear-downs, and lessons learned.
  • Lead cross-functional technical design reviews with Product Development, Brand Management, China NPI, Quality, Sourcing, and suppliers; frame trade-offs and drive clear decisions.
  • Drive value engineering opportunities while protecting product performance, consumer experience, reliability, compliance, and brand quality expectations.
  • Define, review, and close validation activities across engineering builds, performance testing, reliability testing, compliance risk assessment, issue tracking, and corrective actions from concept through mass production.
  • Maintain disciplined product data and documentation in PLM and ERP systems while managing multiple fast-moving programs with urgency, follow-up discipline, and direct accountability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline is required; membership in the OIQ is an asset.
  • 7+ years of hands-on product design, product development, or NPI engineering experience; consumer products, kitchen appliances, small electromechanical devices, or similar durable goods experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence product design at the technical-detail level, not simply manage project status; comfortable challenging assumptions, reviewing supplier proposals, and driving better design outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of electromechanical product development, including plastics, mechanisms, motors, heaters, sensors, PCBAs, controls, thermal systems, fluid paths, user interfaces, and assembly methods.
  • Experience with formal development tools such as product specifications, stage-gate development, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up, GD&T, DFM/DFA, reliability testing, and performance validation.
  • Experience working directly with overseas suppliers, ODM/OEM development teams, and cross-functional global teams; China-based manufacturing partner experience is a strong asset.
  • Ability to review 3D CAD models, supplier drawings, BOMs, test reports, technical proposals, and engineering documentation deeply enough to identify risks, gaps, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical issues and align Product Development, Brand Management, Engineering, Quality, Sourcing, and supplier teams; product compliance and PLM/ERP experience are assets.
