We’re looking for a technically credible Mobile Engineering Manager to lead the delivery and evolution of native mobile experiences. This role sits at the center of how Customers interact with their benefits across native iOS and Android applications, supported by mobile backend services and quality engineering.

This is a high‑impact, highly visible role that blends people leadership, technical judgment, and disciplined delivery. You’ll lead engineers across iOS, Android, Mobile Backend, and Mobile Quality Engineering, partner closely with Product and UX, and ensure the team delivers reliable, customer‑centric experiences with confidence and predictability.

If you enjoy shaping teams, planning execution, and staying close to the technology, this role offers both challenge and opportunity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Grow High‑Performing Mobile Teams
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineers across native iOS, native Android, Mobile Backend, and Mobile Quality Engineering.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, feedback, performance management, and career growth.
  • Create an environment where engineers feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do their best work.
  • Own Planning, Delivery, and Execution
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery for mobile initiatives — from planning through execution, release, and ongoing support.
  • Lead quarterly Program Increment (PI) planning, ensuring alignment to business priorities, dependencies, and team capacity.
  • Translate PI goals into clear sprint plans with realistic commitments.
  • Ensure teams commit to sprint objectives, manage scope actively, and deliver predictably.
  • Own sprint execution health, including burndown tracking, backlog health, and delivery visibility.
  • Use Jira boards and agile ceremonies to maintain transparency and focus.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for delivery risks, dependency challenges, and production issues.
  • Provide Strong Technical Leadership
  • Bring prior hands‑on mobile engineering experience to architecture, design, and decision‑making.
  • Guide engineers on native mobile best practices using SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.
  • Review and challenge designs to ensure scalability, performance, maintainability, and security.
  • Support sound mobile backend and API integration patterns.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point when teams face complex problems.
  • You are not expected to code daily, but you must be comfortable leading technical discussions and making informed engineering decisions.
  • Drive Stability, Performance, and Quality
  • You are accountable for the health of GB Mobile in production, including:
  • App stability (crash rates, ANRs, production defects)
  • Performance (native app cold start, responsiveness, backend latency)
  • Release confidence and operational readiness
  • Oversee release execution through App Store Connect and Google Play Console.
  • Partner closely with Mobile Quality Engineers to ensure strong automation and regression protection.
  • Lead incident management, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑through on corrective actions.
  • Use observability tools such as New Relic (or equivalent) to monitor performance, improve reliability, and accelerate issue resolution.
  • Partner on Customer Journeys and Outcomes
  • Work closely with Product and UX on journey‑based prioritization, aligning engineering effort to customer outcomes.
  • Help shape roadmaps and execution plans that balance feature delivery with platform health.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Security, and Operations to ensure solutions are secure, compliant, and production‑ready.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders on progress, risks, tradeoffs, and results.
  • Reinforce Strong Agile Practices
  • Promote disciplined agile delivery through planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Use data (burndown, throughput, incident trends) to continuously improve team predictability and delivery confidence.
  • Encourage sustainable pace while maintaining high standards for quality and execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years Mobile Engineering Background and leading teams
  • Prior hands‑on experience as a mobile engineer (iOS, Android, or both).
  • Working knowledge of SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience shipping native apps via App Store Connect and Google Play Console.
  • Familiarity with mobile backend integrations, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and mobile observability tools such as New Relic.
  • People and Delivery Leadership
  • Experience leading mobile engineering teams across multiple initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, commit, and deliver against sprint and PI objectives.
  • Strong collaborator with Product, UX, Operations, and Platform teams.
  • Comfortable balancing empathy and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Organized, proactive, and outcome‑oriented
  • Calm and decisive under pressure
  • Takes ownership and follows through
  • Passionate about mobile craft, delivery discipline, and customer experience

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.
  • We’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.
  • As part of our global team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
