RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
The Summer Worker – Budget Support will assist the Budget Team in the preparation, validation, and maintenance of clinical study patient visit schedules and associated budget elements (validating financial data, and ensuring alignment with study protocols and institutional guidelines).
This position is designed for an undergraduate business student seeking practical exposure to healthcare finance, clinical research budgeting, and financial operations.
General Duties
1. Patient Visit List Build & Validation
• Assist in constructing patient visit schedules based on study protocols.
• Translate protocol-required procedures into structured visit calendars.
• Validate completeness and internal consistency of visit schedules.
• Cross-check patient visit activities with protocol requirements and standard templates.
2. Budget Preparation Support
• Support Budget Specialists in populating study budget templates.
• Assist in mapping procedures and visits to cost elements.
• Ensure data accuracy in budget files and supporting documentation.
• Maintain organized records of budget assumptions and inputs.
3. Data Review & Quality Control
• Review patient visit lists and budget inputs for discrepancies or omissions.
• Perform basic variance checks between expected vs. planned activities.
• Flag inconsistencies to the Budget Specialist for resolution.
4. Coordination & Communication
• Liaise with Budget Specialists and clinical teams to clarify visit schedules and procedures.
• Support documentation preparation for internal review and approvals.
• Contribute to maintaining standardized tools, templates, and trackers.
5. Administrative & Process Support
• Maintain organized files for study budgets and supporting documents.
• Assist in updating cost lists and reference materials.
• Support process improvement initiatives (, template standardization, Excel tools).

Education / Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) or related program (Finance, Accounting, or Business).
Work Experience: No experience required.
Required Skills
• Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required.
• An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
