Associate Director, Quantitative Developer

Job Description

What is the opportunity?The QIS development team is looking for a candidate to work with the business to build out and improve the calculation infrastructure required for structuring, trading and risk management. In this role, the candidate will help design and implement a scalable solution for compute which also maintains flexibility to test new strategies that are beneficial for the business. The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of financial calculations in order to be able to communicate effectively with the traders, structurers and quants.What will you do?

• Analyze the computational pattern of a given strategy, and design/implement a calculation framework that accommodates that strategy.

• Help users onboard onto the framework, including working on migrating existing code onto the framework.

• Support the users of the framework to make sure it maintains the maximum potential of compute capability.

• Understand the current set of standard technologies and usage patterns.

• Establish working relationships with quant and technologies to facilitate remediation and redesign.

• Engage with and lead design discussions to improve the stability and reduce duplication of work by both upstream and downstream systems.

• In this role, you will communicate and interact frequently with RBC partners and/or employees located across Canada and/or worldwide.

What do you need to succeed?Must have:

• A very strong understanding of python as the primary language used internally and by users

• Experience in applying in software, or knowledge of mathematical/calculus functions, for example calculations of derivatives and/or applying them via Taylor Approximation

• Interest in developing technical skills by keeping up to date with latest trends in application design and new language features/usage.

• Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills along with strong presentation skills. Ability to communicate complex technical ideas.

• Strong organizational and time management capabilities, as well as an ability to work closely with others.

• Curiosity about how technology can be used to solve real world problems.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in developing on a large scale distributed computation platform, or developing the platform itself.

• Experience working in Capital Markets

• Understanding of QIS (Quantative Investment Strategies)

• Knowledge of technologies such as:

  Distributed caches like Hazelcast, GridGain

• Experience in a matrix environment, such as a large, publicly-traded corporation

• Ability to facilitate between and influence key decision makers

• Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills to work across functions and businesses
