Overview
Our client in the Oil & Gas sector is seeking an experienced Business Analyst for a 6-month part-time contract to support a strategic Azure migration initiative. This role will play a key part in bridging business and technical teams to ensure a smooth migration of applications, infrastructure, and related business processes to Microsoft Azure.
This is a fully remote opportunity; however, candidates must be located and available to work during Mountain Standard Time (MST) business hours to align with project stakeholders based in Calgary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, infrastructure teams, cloud architects, and project leadership to gather, document, and validate business and technical requirements related to the Azure migration.
  • Analyze current-state business processes, application environments, workflows, and system dependencies to support migration planning.
  • Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions to identify operational requirements, risks, constraints, and business impacts.
  • Translate business needs into detailed functional and non-functional requirements, process maps, use cases, and user stories.
  • Support application and infrastructure assessment activities, including documenting system interdependencies, migration readiness, and operational considerations.
  • Partner with technical teams to ensure business requirements are accurately reflected in migration planning and implementation activities.
  • Assist in identifying process improvement opportunities and optimization strategies as part of the cloud transformation initiative.
  • Track project actions, requirements changes, risks, assumptions, and decision logs.
  • Support testing coordination, user acceptance testing (UAT), and business validation activities as required.
  • Develop stakeholder-facing documentation, status updates, meeting summaries, and process documentation.
  • Help drive communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably within enterprise IT transformation or cloud migration projects.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Azure migration, cloud transformation, infrastructure modernization, or application migration initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies, requirements gathering, process mapping, gap analysis, and documentation best practices.
  • Experience working closely with technical infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, or application teams.
  • Ability to understand and translate technical concepts into clear business requirements and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and stakeholder discussions across multiple business functions.
  • Strong documentation skills, including business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, process flows, and meeting documentation.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft 365, Visio, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration/documentation platforms.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a part-time consulting environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the Oil & Gas, Energy, Industrial, or Engineering sectors.
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services, migration frameworks, or enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation, infrastructure modernization, or cloud adoption initiatives.
  • Exposure to change management or business readiness activities.
  • CBAP, PMI-PBA, Agile BA, or related certification considered an asset.
