Position summary

The Sheppard lab seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team within the McGill University Department of Microbiology and Immunology, located at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Center.

Our research group focuses on elucidating the role of cell wall and secreted polysaccharides in the pathogenesis of fungal diseases.

Our laboratory aims to identify and characterize the structure and function of novel polysaccharides, using a wide range of in vitro and in vivo assays spanning molecular biology, cell biology, glycobiology and mouse experimentation approaches.

Our extensive network of collaborators provides complementary expertise in immunology, structural biology and glycochemistry.

Current studies focus on the filamentous human fungal pathogens Aspergillus fumigatus and Mucor species, as well as other animal and plant fungal pathogens, such as Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Botrytis cinerea.

The chosen applicant will join a CIHR-funded program working to define the genetic regulation of novel polysaccharide synthesis.

The applicant will also participate in other lab initiatives, such as the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic strategies targeting these polysaccharides.
