Position Overview

We are seeking a lead programmer to oversee a team of 8-9 direct reports in the Core Technologies (Core Tech) group. Core Tech develops a range of backend and frontend services that enhance Behaviour games, such as matchmaking, player progression, in-game purchases, friends' system, messaging, segmentation, and live ops systems.

There are more. The team consists of members with cross-functional skills such as frontend programmers, backend programmers, QA programmers, and DevOps specialists, all working together to deliver the mandate of the team.

To help us achieve our long-term vision of supporting great games as a service (Gaas), we are looking for someone to manage the team and be accountable for the delivery of major initiatives the team is responsible for.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Ensure that the team delivers the required features on time, and with top quality. You will schedule tasks and assign them, as well as organize how they get done and follow up on their progress.
  • Do a lot of feature scoping and estimations, with the help of programmers and other colleagues (other lead programmers, technical leads, etc.).
  • Do a lot of communicating with your team members. You will have regular 1-1’s where you will exchange feedback. You will also evaluate their performance and support their career progression.
  • Do a lot of communicating with producers, product managers, and other stakeholders, by keeping them aware of the status, progress, scope, and risks related to backend features.
  • Perform technical tasks. You will support and challenge the technical director, the technical leads, as well as your team members in design and implementation decision making.

You may do a certain amount of coding and debugging outside of the critical path.

What we're looking for:

  • Prior people management experience having led at least one programming team.
  • Experience as a lead programmer of web services is a big plus.
  • Prior experience as a programmer of web services is a must. A strong understanding of cloud computing services (AWS, GCP) is a must.
  • A need to possess great communication skills.
  • You need to be solution-oriented and possess a collaborative spirit.
