About the role:

Alcoa USA Corp. Transformation (Remediation and Technology) is looking to fill the role of an Environmental Technology and Process Specialist.

Transformation is charged with the global responsibility to manage Alcoa’s identified environmental liabilities and assets at closed locations and to provide technical assistance for operating locations’ emissions, water, and waste management needs to meet overall financial and risk avoidance goals.

The position to be filled will be within the Remediation and Technology group; it requires project management expertise and a deep understanding of aluminum smelting and refining processes, air sampling and treatment technologies for air emissions, process water, groundwater, soil, and solid waste from former and operating aluminum smelting and refining locations; residue recycle/beneficial use; environmental investigation and feasibility studies; and social management issue awareness.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Accountable for identifying liabilities, developing appropriate strategies to assess and resolve process treatment and remediation issues, as well as budget forecasting and managing liability estimates through implementation.
  • Negotiating with federal, state, and local authorities for permitting, investigation, and remediation of contaminated properties.
  • Managing interaction with property owners on access and remedial action.
  • Maintaining current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
  • Accountable for project management of selected consultants and contractors consistent with Alcoa Standards.
  • Responsible for developing and managing environmental reserves, project budgets, requisitions, and invoice approval.
  • Developing and exhibiting subject matter expertise regarding environmental and remediation technology and trends.
  • Assist with management of bench and pilot scale test programs for air emissions/process water/wastewater treatment as well as residue reuse and recycle.
  • Engineering and design of environmental and remedial treatment systems as well as waste recycle/reuse projects.
  • Collaboration with operating locations to support air sampling, emissions control system design as well as water/solid waste management initiatives.

What you can bring to this role:

  • BS degree from an accredited college or university with a major in mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience; experience in the metals and mining industry preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge in air sampling, pollution control system, process water treatment, and solid waste remediation projects.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety field standards and practices.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and influence others.
  • Awareness of the importance of social management and governance.
  • Ability to work alone and in project team environments to ensure successful project completion.
  • Project management experience.
  • PE licensure preferred.
