Working Business Language : This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English.

Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, this job contributes to Wawanesa success by designing, documenting, testing and supporting reporting solutions to meet business stakeholder requirements.

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst with deep analytical and technical expertise in driving insightful, data-driven Business Intelligence solutions.

This individual will work directly with the Enterprise Data Warehouse, and complex data models from source systems such as the Guidewire Insurance Suite system and / or PeopleSoft.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication & collaboration skills, and an understanding of insurance products and operations, with a background in Power BI and / or MicroStrategy reporting solutions.

The Analyst will be part of our Business Intelligence team and responsible for analyzing, designing, documenting, testing, and supporting the reporting needs of our business stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis, design and documentation of both system and business requirements for reporting enhancements and projects.
  • Lead requirement sessions with business and system teams to elicit reporting requirements.
  • Understand and profile data to extract patterns, and trends to create Business Insights with a focus on optimal user experience and data quality.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear and compelling visualizations.
  • Communicate system solutions in business and technical terms.
  • Collaborate with multiple functions to ensure quality software; diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents supporting our Business Intelligence environment.
  • Provide technical and business leadership for Developers and Analysts. Perform reporting impact assessments to evaluate and adjust to upstream data system changes and enhancements.
  • Lead the resolution of system and business requirement issues.
  • Create test plans and estimates inclusive of evaluating and providing analysis on requirements documentation and identifying key areas of testing.
  • Lead changes to process and procedure improvements.
  • Follow established practices, processes and guidelines.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge on current system standards and IS department established methodologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years' experience performing analysis in a Business Intelligence environment; working with Power BI and / or MicroStrategy.
  • Completion of post-secondary degree / certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize a busy workload.
  • Proficient with complex SQL (multi joins, subqueries, analytical functions) and query performance optimization techniques.
  • Advanced attention to detail skills to produce high quality deliverables that accounts for all areas involved. Able to evaluate and collaborate on design of logical and physical data models including various data types and relationships between entities.
  • Deep understanding of data lineage and data transformation rules, therefore able to perform reporting change impact assessments.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts with a focus on Kimball Based Data Models, and relational database concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to deal well with ambiguity, deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good leadership skills to provide support and guidance to team members.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in agile practices, scrum, kanban and continuous delivery.
  • Experience in programming languages is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in insurance industry is considered an asset.
