CIBC is launching their Capital Markets Scholarship to give 8 Indigenous post-secondary students the chance to receive a $10,000 scholarship and a summer internship at CIBC! When you join CIBC as a post-secondary student, you will be making a difference for our clients, team, and your community.

You will be using your strong relationship-building, communication, and technical skills to assist your teams with a variety of different projects and priorities.

Eligible fields of study include :

  • All Business programs of study.
  • Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, Statistics
  • All Science programs of study
  • All Engineering programs of study
  • Technology, Information Systems and Computer Science / Engineering as well as other
  • associated programs of study
  • All Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science programs of study


  • Copy of your current curriculum vitae
  • Academic transcript of marks covering September 2022 April 2024
  • Two (2) essays on the following :

o Describe your community; how has this

identity influenced your life? (250 words)

o Why would you like to work for CIBC Capital Markets? (250 words)

Applications are assessed on academic performance; volunteer / community involvement and / or extracurricular activities;

and content and relevance of the essays, as well as the curriculum

vitae and interview.


The selection of scholarship recipients is made by CIBC. Preference will be given to students

who identify as part of one or more of the following under-represented groups :

  • People of colour, including members of the Black Community;
  • Indigenous peoples (i.e., First Nations, Inuit or Métis peoples);
  • Persons with disabilities;
  • Members of the LGBTQ+ community; and
  • Women

Preference will also be given to students whose field of study aligns with CIBC Capital Markets

business needs. All applicants will receive confirmation by email of the results of the selection

process, once available.


Successful applicants will receive confirmation of their scholarship in June 2024 along with

internship placement (business unit and internship start / end dates). Recipients will be required

to complete the online scholarship acceptance process and forward any required

documentation such as proof of registration from the institution they will be attending. It is the

responsibility of the recipient to keep SPC informed of any changes to their contact information

through the online portal.

  • If a recipient decides not to complete their internship with CIBC, they will no longer be
  • eligible to receive the scholarship funds;
  • The scholarship must be paid out in the same year that they intern with us;
  • Once accepted, scholarship payment and / or summer internships cannot be deferred to

a later year.


Payment will be issued between May - July 2025, at the start of the student’s internship with

CIBC Capital Markets. It can take 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the method of payment chosen.

Funds will be sent to your educational institution on behalf of the sponsor.

Please make sure to pay your tuition fees within the defined time frame, regardless of the

timing of scholarship payment. Your institution will reimburse you according to their normal

information up to date and to notify us of any changes.

Universities Canada. We administer over 140 scholarship programs for corporations,

government agencies, and private foundations in North America and are affiliated with top

Self Identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit

  • Are entering second or third year towards a first bachelor in the 2024 2025 academic year
  • Have minimum cumulative GPA 3.50 over the last three terms of available marks*. Non- academic courses, such as career or personal development related courses, will not be considered.
  • Are studying in business or STEM program. STEM includes the following four disciplines : Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

  • Are legally entitled to participate in and complete a full-time summer internship with CIBC in one of the following business units, in one of the following cities : Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg
  • If selected, applicants must also pass all required background checks and other prerequisites which may be necessary to work a full-time summer internship with CIBC.
